In media, Long Island is often painted out to be a New York City suburb. While technically true, Long Island has also been at the epicenter of many cultural movements over the past century. It was an important to the development of aviation during the early 20th Century, as Charles Lindbergh lifted off from Roosevelt Field in 1927. It was the place of origin for countless winners of Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards. Hip-hop, punk rock, classic literature, and stand-up comedy all have roots in Nassau and Suffolk County. The Great GatsbyThe Godfather and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind are just a few of the influential works that use Long Island as a setting.

Our website was launched in April 2016 with the mission of celebrating both the history of Long Island and what's ahead for it. Its main focus is on entertainment, from providing content that is entertaining, to featuring Island-related events and personalities. While written by Long Islanders -- past and present -- the content is intended for readers all over the world. We leave the politics and hard news to the other publications...unless they happen to be entertaining.

Simply put, there is No Place Like Long Island.

NY Guitar Expo returns Apr. 22 & 23; Rich Johnson talks to NPLLI

After a rousing success last April, the New York Guitar Show & Exposition proved to be the largest New York metro area guitar show in two decades. Promoter Rich Johnson is a 22-year veteran of presenting events, including 15 years as the seminar producer/director for the New York Boat Show. But a distinction of Rich's productions is that his trade shows are known not to have the "flea market" look that many people would expect.

"Our sixth year is going to be larger and better than ever," began Rich in Q&A with No Place Like Long Island. "New sponsors and media partners are joining in on what is now the fastest-growing guitar show on the East Coast, tripling in size since our inception in 2012."

He continued: "There’s no shortage of incredible people in this area to support the eclectic music scene that makes the New York Tri-State region the music bed the entire world wants to jump in to. We’re hoping just a small fraction of that “world” comes to partake in the eclectic show we have put together."

As per what someone should expect when attending on Apr. 22 and/or 23 at the Freeport Recreation Center: "The show has become a fan favorite with our well-rounded guitar show with vintage gear & guitars, retailers, manufacturers, private collections, etc. So anyone walking through the front door can participate in some way large or small."
